3D Modeling Asset Breakthrough

John B. Marine | 4:56 PM | | | | Be the first to comment!
Of late, I had a breakthrough in testing 3D assets for games. Using GZDOOM for DOOM and JFDuke3D for Duke Nukem 3D, I finally found a way to test out my 3D assets. I learned to import my creations into these ports. The impact from my first successful 3D model importing is me trying to make more models to replace some of the sprites in such games. This blog post is a look at some of the creations I made and what I replaced some graphics with.

3D Modeling Asset Breakthrough

Most of what I have created was done in GZDOOM. I used Duke Nukem 3D also because it is my favorite first-person shooter. GZDOOM, though, was easier to import and implement my creations. JFDuke3D was more of a pain to get my models into the game. I still succeeded.

Model Showcase.

Here are samples of the 3D models I worked on...

3d canteen DOOM
^ from: (my X/Twitter) - Carry around a canteen to hydrate while on duty.

3D canteen DN3D Duke Nukem 3D
^ from: (my X/Twitter) - My Canteen, in Duke Nukem 3D.

classic DOOM asset collage
^ from: (my X/Twitter) - This is a collage of assets in DOOM I developed. From left to right, top to bottom: canteen, small sci-fi healing kit, large sci-fi healing kit, pistol clip, ammo box, and four shotgun shells.

small health kit
^ from: (my X/Twitter) - This is a small healing kit. It will recover minimal health in a game.

large health kit and berserk (DOOM only)
^ from: (my X/Twitter) - On the left is a large health kit, and on the right is a berserk health kit meant to be used in DOOM. The large health kit will recover a moderate amount of health. The berserk operates as it does in DOOM- full health and a damage increase.

paramedic bag
^ from: (my X/Twitter) - This is a Paramedic bag. Depending on the game, this item restores a massive amount of health, grants full health, or takes your health a level above full health.

These are only a handful of game assets I developed. I may go back and edit some of the other game assets I worked on previously.

My Workflow Explained.

My workflow consists of using Blender to make the topology for my models. I use GIMP for texturing my models. I export a map (as well as a UV layout) from Blender to aid in trying to develop UV mapping for my models. Once that is done, I export my models to FBX.

I only exported selected objects and the animation and geometry data. From what Blender considers forward (-Y), I change Forward to "-X Forward" and Up to "Y Up." Other options: Apply Unit enabled, Use Space Transforms enabled, Apply Transforms enabled, triangulate objects, and bake animations.

I use a program called Noesis to convert my FBX to either MD2 or MD3. I had some better luck with MD3, so that is what I use for my exported format from FBX. What I do in Noesis is rotate the model 90 degrees. If exporting to GZDOOM, I use an Advanced Command of "-scale 0.5") or something so the model doesn't look massive in GZDOOM. The original FBX size of my models seem just fine for Duke Nukem 3D in most circumstances.

Struggles Implementing Models.

GZDOOM has been rather simple to implement models into. The one problem I run into is forgetting to put my creations into my own custom PK3 file. I realize why I don't see updated material because I fail to update my PK3! So if you're importing 3D models and textures into GZDOOM, remember to implement them into the PK3. It is recommended you use SLADE for editing PK3s, and also get ZDL to load up DOOM or DOOM2 using a custom 3D PK3.

I struggled so much with Duke Nukem 3D because I had trouble setting things up in DEF files. What makes DN3D easier, though, is that while you have the High Resolution Pack (HRP) installed, you do not need to compile everything into one file like with GZDOOM. The big problem with me is that the MD3 files I've used do not have animation frames to use. So when you define a model, you have to leave the part blank about certain animation frames (the "definemodelframe" property) if you're using a static model.

While I haven't tried out importing models for "Cube Engine" or "Cube 2 Sauerbraten," they were two other options I considered for making 3D models for. The process is rather difficult doing so. I also considered trying out my 3D assets in "Quake 3 Arena" or "OpenArena."

Future Plans.

I hope to be able to develop models that can be animated. I am looking at GZDOOM, Duke Nukem 3D, and even Cube 2 Sauerbraten for animation of MD3 models. GZDOOM seems the easiest to implement animated models, so most of my early attempts could be with GZDOOM. I am going to offer models anyways that will not be rigged or have any animations for those who want to use Mixamo or something for animating models. They will be offered in Blender format along with GIMP's XCF files. The benefit to this? You save money! That is... unless you prefer to subscribe to an *industry standard* at exorbitant prices...

RaceDepartment Lately

John B. Marine | 10:18 AM | | Be the first to comment!
I have developed skins for #AssettoCorsa and #Automobilista . However, never have I released my work shown on my Weebly site to the public until lately on @RaceDepartment . So this blog post is about the work I have posted on that site. I plan on releasing as many of my skins as possible. I am also hopeful you get to enjoy my work as best as you can.

RaceDepartment Lately

To the uninitiated, RaceDepartment is one of the most popular websites for downloading custom content for popular PC racing games. It features a handful of mods and skins for various racing games as well as various other resources. RD even has its own Twitch channel and YouTube channel for which it showcases a number of their online racing events. This is truly a real community style site for racing game fans worldwide.

I have mostly started my own set of downloadable material for RaceDepartment since this past weekend. There were times in the past where people liked my work to where they wanted to know how they could download my work. I unfortunately didn't have any real place to consider uploading my work to. One individual visited my JMDesigns site, and this person wondered where my Sephora Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 could be downloaded. After giving it some thought, I decided it would be now that I decided to post my work online. I made my uploading debut on RaceDepartment by featuring my Sephora Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 for download. This then made me want to think about what other cars I should feature on RD. Even during Super Bowl LIII, I was working on one of my skin designs. I figure more people will want to see some quality skin work. So while many of the skins are basically just lying on my PC, I felt I need to update my skins to reflect newer art techniques and make them a bit more presentable. Or for those that I think are pretty fine as is, I basically will just release them cold turkey to RaceDepartment.

To anyone who has visited my JMDesigns site, there are portfolios of mine showcasing my work. Even the JMDesigns Store features links to my material online. I will work to provide more material in the future.

My Work So Far...

Let me share with you pictures of my work so far listed on RaceDepartment. Click on the images below the pictures to see my material in better detail and to download. Only items I have posted recently on RaceDepartment will be featured here. For more of my work, click on the link at the end of this section to see my most recent work published to RaceDepartment.

I am also posting these pictures in their original size. I have not tested out how these pictures all look, but I will do this as an experimental basis.

NOTE: You must set up an account on RaceDepartment to be able to download and review material posted there.

Special Request! Donations...

If you enjoy my work, please consider donating. I don't make my own money outside of my online work, and I would like to financially profit from my work in any way possible. So I suggest you offer a legitimate donation to me in any amount. I recommend a minimum donation of at least $2 USD donations through PayPal. Please support me any way you can. At least give me peace of mind knowing my work means something to others.

My Assetto Corsa Teams

John B. Marine | 10:22 PM | | | | | Be the first to comment!
In #AssettoCorsa and with Content Manager, I assembled some teams. And in this "John's Creative Space" blog post, I will share you those team creations of mine. This continues my groove of car skinning for Assetto Corsa. You can view all of my work on my Weebly site, but I want to share my work here as well to keep this blog flowing.

My Assetto Corsa Teams

When creating liveries for Assetto Corsa, you can just create a basic skin for any vehicle. You and then program any number of racing suits for the driver and the team.

But before I show you my team liveries, let me share this with you...

Skins... AND Team?

I practiced looking at making a car livery along with making a team and driver set to make a complete team. This was my first practice:

Assetto Corsa team
This was practice on making a team. What isn't visible are the headphones on the teams underneath the tent.

There is an ac_crew.dds file to each skin in Assetto Corsa. The elements of that file determine the image details expressed by the team. Assetto Corsa offers a good array of default racing gear to where you feel you lack enough quality suits, gloves, and helmets. You kind of have to play around with the options of already-available content, but you should be fine unless you want to make completely unique racing gear.

Now on to my team liveries. I will share with you three teams I created.

Team: Victoria's Secret Racing.

Victoria's Secret BMW Z4 GT3 Team Assetto Corsa
This is "Victoria's Secret Racing" with some very sexy BMW Z4 GT3s.

My first team I attempted to put together in a team picture is "Victoria's Secret Racing." This is a team of thee BMW Z4 GT3s. The premise was to make a sexy set of paintschemes for a sexy race car. I initially planned on all cars to be black with pink accents. Eventually, I chose to make only one of them black with pink accents. The other two were two shades of pink and pink with white. The cars represent three different lines from the Victoria's Secret line. The first one is Victoria's Secret itself, the second one is the Juniors-oriented Victoria's Secret PINK line, and the third one is the Victoria Sport (or VSX) line.

Team: Sodexo Sport.

Sodexo Sport Porsche team Assetto Corsa
Three Porsche 911 RSRs make up this French team of the French brand Sodexo.

Sodexo is a company that specializes in quality of life services. It is a French company I learned of when I was hospitalized last year. I mostly know them for providing good food to stay nourished. In making my Sodexo team, I had trouble wondering how to utilize the template for the car. So I did my best and came up with the scheme you see for this team in Assetto Corsa.

Team: Roshfrans Racing.

Roshfranz Racing BMW M3 GT2 team Assetto Corsa
Meet this Mexican team of BMW M3 GT2s.

Of the three teams I am featuring here in this post, "Roshfranz Racing" is the only team based on freely-available cars in Assetto Corsa. So this is not downloadable content for AC. Roshfranz is a Mexican company that produces car care products. I picked to paint the cars black, but each team car features the three different colors that make up Roshfrans. Also among the sponsors is Volaris. Volaris is a Mexican airline.

Now you know about the teams I created. For more plans with my work, visit the next section.

My Plans With These Assetto Corsa Teams

Thank you for looking at my teams! I want you to know something if these pictures have interested you, though. I am thinking of providing my skins and other work to sites like RaceDepartment or NoGripRacing. I hope I can generate enough interest to be able to offer my work to all of you. So if I somehow get a good amount of interest, I will provide my work online for you to enjoy. Just be sure to thank me, of course!

All of the teams do not have actual drivers assigned to them. I'll leave that up to you in case you want to set up team liveries and such. To see all of my work work for Assetto Corsa, please visit my Assetto Corsa portfolio on JMDesigns.

I hope you enjoy my work here. Glad you could drop by! Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Assetto Corsa Skinning

John B. Marine | 8:23 PM | | | | Be the first to comment!
Skinning for Aseeto Corsa cars is something I've done lately in trying to learn how to mod cars for this game. I have used GIMP for my skinning of cars. The really nice thing about this game is that all cars have templates for them supplied by the developer, Kunos Simulazioni. Part of the process is in trying to learn how to properly put in my material. I will share with you some of the skins I made for Assetto Corsa and what I have learned.

First, here is a decent skin I created:

Assetto Corsa skin
^ This is a 2016 Audi R8 LMS colored in my Moonlight Motorsports livery.

This skin was created by me after learning how to properly design liveries for cars using GIMP. Part of this involved some trial and error. Making a skin with GIMP is not really difficult; it is just not as efficient and intuitive as with Photoshop.

What are my recommendations? First off, save the PSD format template to GIMP's proprietary XCF format. If you try to save over the PSD in GIMP, you will lose the texture group information- and you don't want that. So try to save the PSD file into XCF before doing any painting in GIMP. Assetto Corsa uses the DDS format for textures. The recommended format is DXT1 for textures that do not use alpha channels. Use DXT5 format DDS for images that have transparency to them. Transparency options usually are reserved for things like windshield graphics and some car skins that are basically overlays to cars.

When you save a DDS file through GIMP, the car skin will appear light at first. It is as if gamma correction is provided when a skin is successfully loaded into the game or through some external viewer. Also, pay special attention to what layer is active in GIMP, because the active layer will be exported when you try to load the skin onto a car. So when you're done with all of the livery graphics, flatten the image so all visible layers are applied to the car. Make sure also to not have the wireframe layer active if a skin has a wireframe layer. What about the colors? The method I use is to darken the color lightness and add some saturation. Use the "Hue-Saturation" option from the Colors menu in GIMP. The settings I use are Lightness at -75 and about Saturation of 15. After doing this, the skin comes out properly when I upload the skins into Assetto Corsa.

So in review, here is the skinning process:
• paint your livery onto a given car
• flatten the image
• darken the Lightness of the image and add some Saturation
• save the DDS file in DXT1 format, and also generate mipmaps

If you have Assetto Corsa, I recommend using "Content Manager" to preview skins for cars. The program updates skins in real time, so you can edit the skins as many times as you like to sample your skin before playing it in the game.

Now for the trial and error process. Consider the following:

Skinning Too Light.

Assetto Corsa skin
^ This was a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport appearing too bright.

With this effort, the colors appear faded, like badly worn jeans or other clothes. The colors are not rich enough and real enough for my tastes. Actually, I had previously added more saturation just to make sure the colors appear right. Even still, there was that sort of gamma correction that made the colors appear brighter than they should be. I didn't want that kind of gamma correction hampering the quality of my livery designs.

Skinning Too Dark.

Assetto Corsa skin
^ This Mazda MX-5 Cup test car was colored darker than the original image.

There was a point where I sampled colors too dark. What I did was apply an all-black layer and gave it some opacity. This would darken my image without needing to apply Lightness or Saturation once I flattened the image. This worked well. However, it made some of my skins appear darker and less saturated than what they should be. So I then retired that method.

Lessons Learned.

Until I find a way around gamma correction, this is the method I use to try to apply proper color quality to my car skins in Assetto Corsa. The cars still come out beautifully once I import them into the game.

Happy new year, mates! Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Pizza Hut Cup

John B. Marine | 4:59 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
Earlier in 2016, I made a skin for GTR2's Saleen Mustang SE Challenge. The motivation was to make another GTR2 video. The cars share the same Pizza Hut livery. There is a story behind making a one-off event, and this blog post details that storyline. As of yet, I haven't made any kind of video or anything on it. Rest assured I will be providing links to any video material or anything else I come up with in this blog post. As of the initial blog post, however, I am simply announcing the storyline.

Since this is my first post to this blog of 2017, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

DISCLAIMER:

This story and its contents are purely fiction. Any relation between this project's storyline, characters, or anything of that nature is purely coincidental.

Pizza Hut and its name, logos, and related marks are a registered trademark of Pizza Hut, Inc.

Pizza Hut Cup

Here is a look at the skin I created for the GTR2 mod:

Pizza Hut Porsche Cayman S
^ from: (my Weebly site) - This is the Pizza Hut Cup car, a 2011 Porsche Cayman S. I originally had a Saleen Mustang SE to serve as my race car for the Pizza Hut Cup.

And here is the story...

Pizza Hut Cup: Story.

The main story of this race is that there is a race sponsored by Pizza Hut and promoted to run a special support race. A collection of 20 identically prepared and identical liveried cars will compete among each other. While the event is a racing event, there is one important caveat. Each of the drivers paid certain fees that went towards providing vouchers for individuals. The vouchers allow for individuals and families to be fed to a proper Pizza Hut meal. Those vouchers will be part of a raffle. The meals these vouchers pay for include the following:

• a large size pizza with any choice of toppings and crust
• the customer's choice of wings or breadsticks
• pasta
• a 2-liter bottle of soda

Racing hard while also providing delicious dinner is the premise behind this series and how it is catching on. I want this to be a rather interesting story of "paying it forward." Good food and doing good for others. Win-win, right?

Pizza Hut Cup: The Competition Car.

The car is a Porsche Cayman S race car. The car is nimble and makes fairly decent horsepower. Prior to recent times, the car I intended to have as the competition car for this series was a Saleen Mustang SE race car. I only went as far as designing the outer skin. And just like the Summer Speed Series deal I created for GTR2, the drivers featured are mostly generated or generic drivers. I have to have some kind of way to identify the drivers so it doesn't seem like a bunch of drones racing each other.

JUST SO YOU KNOW... I also created a skin for rFactor long ago to make a Pizza Hut car for that game. However, I haven't made a proper set of cars to make it unique for rFactor. I also used a different car. For rFactor, the Pizza Hut car I created is a Panoz Esperante GTS race car. If I make something for rFactor on this topic, I'll be sure to share my work with you all.

One of the real challenges was in trying to design the car skin. I can't seem to load the skins for the car using 3DSimEd, so I have to load GTR2 to get a general feel for what I am trying to design.

Candy Cup

John B. Marine | 9:59 PM | Be the first to comment!
The Candy Cup is a GTR2 One-Make Series I made using the 2012 Alfa Romeo Mito of the Trackaholics Hot Hatch Euro Challenge. Despite its sweet name, Candy is an Italian manufacturer of home appliances. This is my latest One-Make Series concepts. The blog post here introduces you to this latest concept I've come up with. So prepare once again to delve into the world of this Texas blogging boy. This is John's Creative Space!

Candy Cup

Allow me to set this one up.

The Story.

A series featuring one of the trendiest European "hot hatches" was unveiled. Catered towards young drivers, racing variants of the Alfa Romeo Mito were created for this European championship, though this series features mostly Italian tracks and drivers. This series was able to obtain sponsorship from Candy- an Italian manufacturer of home appliances. Candy is the primary sponsor of this series. As many as 20 cars with identical liveries make up this field. Who can take advantage of the Mito's performance and prove to be one of the best up-and-coming racers?

The Competition Car.

2012 Candy Cup Alfa Romeo Mito
^ This Alfa Romeo Mito is adorned in Candy livery.

The car used is a racing-spec 2012 Alfa Romeo Mito. Exact figures are not known on this car, but it is a front-wheel drive car powered by a 1368cc Inline-4 engine. It weighs somewhere north of 1000kg. Each car has identical livery but with variations in color. There are 10 different color combinations. To tell each car apart, the odd-numbered cars have white side mirrors, and the even numbered cars have colored side mirrors. These are three-digit cars in the 200 range. The car is one of the many cars in the 2012 Hot Hatch Euro Challenge by Trackaholics.

The Racing.

This, like my Summer Speed Series, is all random with identically prepared cars. So anybody can win in theory. It is a fantasy series with fantasy drivers. In fact, I tried something different for this series. I used a name generator to come up with the driver names. Since this series is mostly Italian, most of the drivers have generated Italian names.

And in case you're wondering, here is the name generator I used: Name Generator on behindthename.com.

If I make a video featuring the cars I created for this series, you will see it here replacing this paragraph. Please stay tuned for updates; or better yet, check JohnMarineTube (my YouTube channel) for video updates.

A Special Shout Out (Bonus Section!)

Before I close this blog post, I want to salute a fellow blogger and skinner. Rendy of RENDY'S BLOG runs a blog featuring motorsports and some of his many creations. He mentioned me on Twitter and offered his thanks to me and another personality by the name of Racing Hearts Garage and the Global Racing League. The reason why Rendy mentioned us is because he felt inspired and motivated on the front of skinning cars by us. So if Rendy is reading this blog post, I just want to say thank you... and you're welcome.

Summer Speed Series

John B. Marine | 9:10 PM | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: August 3, 2016)
My latest GTR2 project heats up the Summer. I created a fantasy story regarding teenagers of legal driving age that participated in a Summer camp engaging in an unforgettable experience- an auto race around a famed racing facility. I will introduce you to this project and what all it entails with this blog post. It brings me great pleasure to provide this project to all of you. Let's begin!

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

AUG 3 2016 - added video

Summer Speed Series

Here is the story to this project.

The Story.

As many as 50 High School students of driving age enjoyed their time at a motorsports Summer Camp. Of those 50, 20 were invited to compete in a unique racing challenge- 10 laps around Road Atlanta in identically-prepared 2007 Ford Focus RSes. Each of these determined teenagers will earn scholarships. Only one, however, will be driving back to High School in his/her own brand new Ford Focus. Twenty competitors. Ten laps around Road Atlanta. One race. One champion. Who will win this One-Make Series featuring these furiously fast Fords?

The Competition Car and the Racing.

Here is the car:

Coca-Cola Ford Focus RS
^ I designed this Coca-Cola livery on this 2007 Ford Focus RS for GTR2.

Each car is an identically-prepared 2007 Ford Focus RS completely tuned for racing. These are four-wheel drive machines complete with turbo engines, front and rear spoilers, and full roll cages. The cars make an estimated 297hp (301 PS) and 326 lb. ft. of torque (442 Nm). The series is called the Summer Speed Series. With all of the cars, I developed a Coca-Cola livery to be on all the cars since it is the primary sponsor of the series. Being able to compete with cars with so much power and ability will blow the minds of these teens. Despite this, these teenagers knew what they signed up for when they joined this motorsports Summer camp.

The Series.

Coca-Cola Ford Focus RS
^ from: (one of my Facebook albums) - This was a picture I made as a prototype for this project.

I chose Coca-Cola and Road Atlanta because Coca-Cola is based in Atlanta. I personally prefer Pepsi over Coca-Cola, but I put this all together to come up with a fairly interesting series. This story is only told about one race. However, I maybe thought of some other interesting projects I may want to work on to make more stories of this fictional Summer Speed Series. I guess if I had inspiration on coming up with this story, you can thank either a racing series here in the United States called the Summer Shootout Series and even the likes of the ToCA Race Driver series. I just saw something in trying to find certain GTR2 mods to work with and came along the Ford Focus RS mod. I had to try to make the livery as believable as possible of a Coca-Cola liveried car. I don't have too much experience skinning cars. The fact that all of the cars look the same may seem boring and lacks any real personality to most people. However, I am pacing this more along the lines of having one star emerge from everyone else.

Choosing the cars and the level of competition was realistic. It is truly fictional with fictional drivers, but I wanted to be realistic. I didn't want to (for example) tell a story of very inexperienced teenagers that somehow can race Formula 1 cars masterfully. This project is one of the first in which I try to utilize GTR2 to act out a story. It is also a chance for me to be inspired to make my own fantasy television coverage of a racing event complete with graphics and commentary. Think of it kind of like The Onion (if you're familiar with it), only not as funny and well-played as The Onion.

I may or may not have another project under the name "Summer Speed Series." The *official* name of this series as I came up with it is the "Coca-Cola Summer Speed Series."

How it All Plays Out.

This is a generally random sort of race. So therefore, there are no rivalries, no surely talented characters, heroes or villains, or anything like that. It is basically just a random sort of race I set up. This was mostly meant to be a random deal. Because I have never done something like this before, I will be learning all the while how to make game videos, especially in the sense of something like an AI race. Whatever I come up with will be the reflection of what I have learned so far making both skins for cars and a game video.

Because this is all mostly random (rather than trying to gain permission from real people to focus them in action with my previous project), I don't have to worry much about trying to have actual people featured or anything like that.

What I do come up with will be shared in a video. So make sure to visit my YouTube channel "JohnMarineTube" for more information.

Summer Speed Series: The Video!

(ADDED: August 3, 2016)

Here is the video I created and released recently! Check it:

^ Coca-Cola Summer Speed Series - Road Atlanta

Variables used:
• 17:00 Start Time (5:00 PM)
• Time: Realtime
• Fuel Consumption: Normal
• Tire Wear: Normal
• Mechanical Failures: Normal
• AI Aggression: Psychotic

I wanted to provide the impression that these were not seasoned racing drivers. Since they weren't fully disciplined, I set the AI aggression to Psychotic. I recorded a few extra bits just to record some of the incidents on track. It took me about a week to do everything from decide on how to pace the video and do all the extra editing to put this video together. This ranged from the graphics to the audio narration.

Now you know about my project. Stay tuned for more when I eventually create a video to be released. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Fashion Racing Association

John B. Marine | 12:45 AM | | Be the first to comment!
Playing GTR2 and sampling mods has me thinking of series. Let me share this fantasy story representing one fantasy series I have in mind. It is part of a project for YouTube to expand my array of videos and have some fun. After all, this kind of stuff should be fun, right? So read on for more info. Maybe if you want to contribute something, feel free to contact me.

BEFORE I BEGIN...

This story is (obviously) fiction. All licensed brands featured here are copyrights of the respective companies.

About the Label: "Game Mods"

Blog posts in this category relate to my designs based on game mods. My own personal work is shared towards the work I produce.

Fashion Racing Association

Here is the story to set up this series idea. You will even get some ideas as to what I am looking to accomplish with such stories.

Story.

Certain fashion designers and motorsports promoters came together to discuss starting several different racing challenges as well as special events to try to offer a unique parallel between fashion and racing. This league is collectively called the "Fashion Racing Association." This series invites various fashion personalities the world over. The series primarily focuses on fashion bloggers, but even those even remotely into fashion will have their chance to compete in this unique series sanctioned by the FRA.

One of the racing events is a series featuring identically-prepared vehicles in a one-make series. Here is a press statement prepared by one of the promoters of the FRA:

For the maiden race of our series of races, we want to invite a host of fashion bloggers to a unique racing challenge we like to call the "International Race of Fashion." The racing challenge we have set up involves various fashion personalities all competing in cars as stylish as their blogs and outfits. While we are aware that racing is not the finest talent of these competitors, we must make sure to provide purpose-built race cars to ensure safety. The cars themselves are not to be anything overbearing. We are not interested in causing tension among the fashion community with heated rivalries or anything- our plan is just to let fashion personalties compete in single racing challenges. We welcome a vast array of personalities- petites, curvy/plus-size fashion personalities, thrifty fashionistas, and more. We also welcome personalities of many different ages. If one is old enough to drive, they are eligible to compete in our events. We are looking forward to making this series grow as much as we can.

Prototype and Plans.

My goal here is to come up with a unique kind of series featuring some peppy amateur-type race cars. In brainstorming this idea, I had initially thought of using a mod featuring the 2009 model Ford Fiesta ST based on mods I had at that time for GTR2. Then, I thought about using more proper and more sporty cars- namely the Hankook MX-5 Cup mod for GTR2. The mod seemed simple to mod. My intent was to make a certain livery for the car and have the individual cars painted differently based on the same scheme. I then thought about some other cars. So I looked at mods for GTR2 including a mod featuring the BMW 1-Series hatchback and another mod featuring the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. While I mentioned not having anything too extreme for race cars, I even considered a Porsche Cup mod to serve as the cars for the featured racers. Because this project involves envisioning fashion bloggers, the liveries of each car would have banners atop the front windshield bearing the name of the individuals' blogs. It is promotional while not trying to be promotional.

I had planned on setting up a pilot featuring certain bloggers I like or that I follow. As much as I wanted to make a pilot for this concept, I felt it would be wrong to try to innocently make a series without the consent of others. The plan for making this was to come up with some new content for my YouTube channel. I found this to be a fun concept to try out. It is just a pilot- a prototype, yet I didn't want to release a pilot video unwillingly without permission of certain individuals.

Another element of this series is an emphasis on two different classes: American contenders vs. international contenders. As part of the deal, the American personalities will have white banners across the windshields, and the non-American personalities will have red banners across the windshield. Those not born in the USA are what will be "international" contenders. The American drivers will have numbers between 4-99, and the international contenders will have numbers between 100-199. Examples of liveries I've created will be featured later in this blog post.

Story Execution.

The races to be set up are AI (artificial intelligence, for those not educated on gaming) races. These are simulated races. How will they play out? I don't know. All I know is that anything can happen when you set up AI races. I am not going to do any kind of tweaking just to ensure one personality wins. There is no favoritism at play here.

Personal Commentary.

In a way, I sort of thought of "Sex and the City 2" when considering the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG mod. Not that I seen "Sex and the City 2," but part of me made me think of Mercedes-Benz as one of the cars in this conceptual race idea I had.

Similar Plans?

I had interest in making extra series devoted to specific categories of fashion bloggers and even those who are just mere fashion personalities online (such as those who don't have fashion blogs or Instagram accounts).

There is your look at my series concept. Because I never did this before, I will be learning as I go along. Learning as you go along is a lot like life. I don't know what to expect, so I will slowly get better with my work over time the more I contribute to it.

The Competition Car

This car is a 2009 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. It is a mod for GTR2. Here is a look at the livery I have been working on as this first GTR2 project of mine:

fashion racing front
This is a basic view of this car.

fashion racing rear
This is a rear view of the car.

livery variation
As the livery was meant to be a template, I made a variation of the base livery. Also notice the text on the windshield banner. The name of certain blogs are displayed on both the front and rear windshield banners to identify the contenders. I am not putting myself in this series! I put this car in only as a demonstration.

As you can tell, the base white (actually silver) color is the base color complimented by the secondary purple/violet colors. I am a bit undecided on making tertiary colors with the rollcage. The color choices are decided by me to make as many different variations of this same livery as possible to fill out the grid of contenders. Each car boasts the same primary sponsor of Sephora. For those not educated about fashion and beauty, Sephora is a French company that is one of the most popular retailers of beauty products. Each car has the same primary sponsor.

My First Attempt at Sharing a Video Capture!

Want to see my liveries in action? I have this video for you all. There are skips and such, but this is my first-ever attempt trying to make a video from a video capture. Enjoy:

You now have an idea of what this deal is like in action and what I hope to improve to make this special.

Special Request! Want In?

My intent is to pick out different fashion blogs to serve as contenders to fill out my field of cars for this fantasy racing series. I am torn between either featuring certain bloggers [with or without permission] I follow and asking for certain bloggers who maybe want to be featured in this just-for-fun series. I do want to feature certain fashion blogging personalities I follow and maybe feature some out of surprise- as in you may not know who I will feature.

All featured personalities will be represented with the same racing livery but in different colors. I want to make the colors fun since this this is not supposed to be some overly serious racing league. I may select certain numbers or randomly generate driver numbers to represent each contender.

So if you are a fashion blogger that wants to be featured in this series I'm conceptualizing, feel free to contact me online through Facebook or here in my blog. I am concerned about the permission part because I would feel guilty featuring something like this series without someone knowing beforehand.

If I come up with more concepts towards fantasy racing series, I will let you know in this blog. I hope you enjoyed your time here. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.
