Hallucination

John B. Marine | 6:22 PM | Be the first to comment!
Let me break down my latest song for you all. "Hallucination" is the latest song I worked on and released to Soundcloud and Bandcamp. It is a hip-hop style song I first worked on in 2016 through Linux Multimedia Studio (LMMS). I made a much better version in FL Studio. The song is very simple. I used only seven tracks in its creation. A big part of its creation is how I dedicated one entire track to the beats. I learned I could put together all of one element of a song into its own track. That is what I did with the main beats in "Hallucination." The other six tracks all involve the individual elements of the song.

In its infant stages, "Hallucination" was created as practice for using a triple oscillator called 3x Osc. I was not really happy with the sound when I tried to re-create in FL Studio, so what I did was replace it with an organ sound. I felt using an organ sound worked a good bit better with the song. The FL Studio re-creation also got me to be more creative with the beats. To that end, I tried to come up with a good kick, hat, and snare. The middle of the song has the only real variation in the beat style.

Though "Hallucination" is my latest song, I put it among a new album on Bandcamp. I am releasing some of my songs as part of suites. These suites contain simple songs created by me for you to enjoy and maybe use in media projects if inclined. "Hallucination" is part of my Hip-Hop Suite on Bandcamp. More basic songs in this category will be made available. If you're a paying visitor to my Bandcamp, enjoy the prices for my work before I bump things up for anyone who wants the full package of my songs.

Feel Good!

John B. Marine | 6:22 PM | Be the first to comment!
"Feel Good!" is a song I worked on privately since about 2016. Like the "Urban Dream" song I mentioned in my previous post, I constantly developed "Feel Good!" to something I felt would be enough to share with the world. This is a song that has a light dance feel. It is melodic while also being peppy and upbeat. It also sounds a bit mellow, but not too much to dilute a lot of the vibes this song generates. The one thing I struggled most with is trying to get many of the instruments to respectable volume levels in FL Studio. I also thought about ways to spice up the song. I am still fairly amateur with FL Studio, but I am evolving and learning. This song was created almost entirely with stock FL Studio instruments and samples as part of the Production Edition. Most of the instruments were in using the Sytrus generator.

The mood I was going for was a sunny Monday. Not many people like Mondays, but I often embrace Mondays as the start to hopefully make the upcoming week great. Musically-inclined me often thinks of Monday songs to be in C Major. I had this song originally to be part of a special suite of original songs as a Monday soundtrack. "Feel Good!", however, may be part of its own suite of songs as I have a few different versions of it in mind.

I also had a vision of stories I could tell with this song. I had the vision of a family enjoying a sunny day having fun. Think of it a bit like being able to enjoy a beautiful day by having fun and not letting the world's problems get in the way. You are free and at your happiest. Let's say you are enjoying a city park, a theme park, a festive carnival, some celebration, or simply feeling happy doing some normal stuff. You could also think of this as a song where young folks are simply dancing the day away to a fun tune. Have friends and/or family to enhance the experience? Even better! In the outro of the song, the day was an amazing one, and it's time to head to bed, but not without having an enjoyable time. Those are the vibes behind "Feel Good!".

I sort of hope you find some enjoyment in this "Feel Good!" song I've worked on. I invite you to have a listen if interested. Here is how:

Urban Dream (2023 Version)

John B. Marine | 9:34 PM | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: July 17, 2023)

"Urban Dream" has been a song I made privately since 2013. I went from Linux Multimedia Studios (LMMS) to FL Studio with this song. I did enough work to make a better version of my old song. And now, I put my work on Beatport. It's my first song uploaded to Beatport since 2016, so this is nearly seven years since I released any completed song to Beatport.

All of the instruments except for drums and other effects are made with Sytrus in FL Studio. It was tough to try to put together a solid set of instruments to help shape the song. I later had to adjust the volume levels so the song didn't sound so distorted. I was happy enough to where I felt I could make this song final and release and sell it. I now am able to share this with you all.

You may click on the material below to hear my full version of this song after a series of revisions in 2023...

Urban Dream (2023 Revision)

John B. Marine | 7:50 PM | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: May 3, 2023)

"Urban Dream" is a song I made a long time ago and have recently released a newer version of. As I got more inclined with FL Studio's Signature Edition, I developed the passion to make more music. Urban Dream was just "Dream" long ago. I first developed this song around 2014 in Linux Multimedia Studio (LMMS). Back then, it was simply called "Dream." Because I sort of envisioned this song is more like a song with an urban feel, I decided to later name it "URBAN Dream."

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S).

MAY 3 2023 - added second revision

I guess "Urban Dream" has become my signature work. While I don't consider it my theme song, it has kind of been like my song for my work. I somehow have seemed to have a knack for making a lot of songs in the C-Sharp key. As much as I try to diversify my content, some things you always seem to come back to, even if unintentionally.

I shared my original work of this song on YouTube years ago. Only recently, I began sharing my music work on Soundcloud. I offered my FL Studio work in 2022 followed by my 2023 rendition of the same song. The key to this was in utilizing different instruments. My 2023 rendition utilized more Sytrus channels. While the in-program FLEX instruments are of a great collection of free instruments, too many FLEX channels can slow down your real time playback of songs Sytrus, however, is much lighter on CPU load. Sytrus is more for those who mostly use a lot of electronic dance-style instruments. I'm okay with that since I mostly am big in the electronic scene.

I started to get confident about my work when I found a kick and snare combination I felt good about. I had to try to paint in a pattern that I thought would sound great. In my 2022 work with the song, I went with some agogo bells that I thought sound cool. However, I thought that would have given the song a tropical or jungle feel, so I ditched that style for this song. I made sure to put in wind chimes to sweeten the song and some smart bomb sounds to spice the song up. I had a piano effect in my private 2022 make of "Urban Dream," and one piano I found for Sytrus sounded more natural and fit the song better. So I used that Grand Piano effect at times for accents for the song.

When I uploaded my 2023 rendition of the song, I noticed one instrument sounded light and drowned out by the other sounds. So what I did was change the instrument to something that I didn't think would be drowned out by the other sounds. I still felt good about my work to where I released it to the world. Want to hear what I came up with? Check this out:

Hope After Pain

John B. Marine | 3:38 PM | | Be the first to comment!
I realized I did not post ANYTHING on YouTube in 2018. This is sad, considering 2018 was my 10th Anniversary on YouTube. I didn't post anything on YouTube since March 17, 2017 prior to my latest video. So I had to plan something for my return. What I ended up doing was posting a song I made in 2016. I hate that it took so long to return to YouTube, but I returned in some sort of way. What I did was post a song I first created in 2016 or so and then have it play while showing an Assetto Corsa skin I developed. The end result? This:

^ Hope After Pain

This song is called "Hope After Pain." Originally, it was called "Sunshine Despite Rain." The reason for its former name is because it was inspired by when a miserable rainy day finally has the rain stop and the sun come back out (or moonlight at night). The song is meant to be a positive song in case anyone may have fallen on hard times or is battling depression. The song is hope that things will get better for you after experiencing such rough times. So that is why the tone of the song is so mellow and a bit depressing.

"Hope After Pain" was developed in Linux MultiMedia Studio (LMMS) back in 2016. For the longest, I wanted to post my music online. I never had the energy to post it until recently. I hate that it took me until 2019- a year after my 10-year anniversary on YouTube- to finally post this song. But as they say, "better late than never."

I hope you enjoy this musical effort of mine! :)

John B. Marine | 11:55 PM | Be the first to comment!
My music on Bandcamp is showcased here in this post. If you haven't yet heard some of the music I've produced, then allow me to present this post to you featuring the musical work I have uploaded to Bandcamp. I hope to offer more than what you're about to hear in the future. You will be able to hear a lot of the music I've made and also get an idea of what other material I may work on for possible future projects. So welcome to "John's Creative Space" and my amazing realm of creative work.

I am allowing you to listen to my music from right here in my blog. If you want to purchase my music, you are free to do so. I would appreciate your business if you did find my music enjoyable.

My Bandcamp Music: The Journey So Far...

Here is your chance to hear some of the music I've created. You can visit my Bandcamp site for more information on each individual song.

"Introduction."

Many of the songs featured here are mostly songs I previously made long ago. It was basically to introduce myself to the Bandcamp realm.

"Variety."

Songs I made earlier in 2016 are featured in a brief album called "Variety." Not much special here. There are two hip-hop type songs and one mellow pop song.

As of right now, that is all I have published so far.

My Bandcamp Music: Future?

If I am able to properly create some quality material, I hope to offer more albums with many more kinds of music. I not only want to produce music, but I want to produce music that I am hopeful people consume and use and enjoy.

For example, there are a number of different projects I have in mind in which I envision if I had my own TV themes for certain kinds of sports. I even envision making a set of generic themes that could be used for news programs or podcasts. I'm probably thinking of the latter since I doubt any major companies or major news networks would even use (or care) about my songs. Another project in mind is that of providing songs and sound effects that can be used as game assets. For people who usually use something like the jingles in iMovie and iLife (for all the Apple users, of course), I want to make a set of jingles that may interest you. I also have visions of on a series of songs with the theme of offering positive and inspirational songs. There are many ideas I have, many of which I Hope to bring to fruition.

I simply want to provide material that I think people will find interesting. All the while, I also hope I can profit from my work. First and foremost is to produce and provide enjoyable material made to the best of my ability.

Making great material for you- ranging from blog posts to creative works. That's what I do and hope I am doing well. You just read another post from "John's Creative Space"- the blog showcasing my various creative works. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Bandcamp

John B. Marine | 9:59 PM | | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: January 6, 2016)
I joined Bandcamp recently! Bandcamp is an online community where people share (and even sell) their music online. I long wanted to test the waters of Bandcamp with some of the music I've produced. Various artists and groups have offered their music to be heard on Bandcamp. After researching heavily, I finally put together a profile on Bandcamp for which I hope to offer music for your listening pleasure. I was actually considering joining both Bandcamp and SoundCloud previously. For now, I'm on Bandcamp. I'll talk more about my decision to ultimately join and what I hope to accomplish on Bandcamp with this blog post you are reading now.

(LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

JAN 6 2016 - edited post and included some extra items

Bandcamp

It's time I talk you through my Bandcamp experience.

Bandcamp: A Simple Introduction.

Bandcamp is used by a handful of artists and groups ranging from various independents to some that are pretty big deals. For the most part, Bandcamp is fairly about independent artists, groups, and labels. Full soundtracks to certain indie/independent games are featured on Bandcamp. Games such as Double Dragon Neon, Elliott Quest, and Shovel Knight are on Bandcamp among others. People who aren't proper recording artists or proper music producers are on Bandcamp simply to offer their music to others. Those who join Bandcamp can join as artists, fans, or labels. I am on as an artist (obviously). Music can be offered for free or for a fee- ranging from specific prices to letting customers name their price. Music from Bandcamp can also be downloaded in a number of formats ranging from MP3 to OGG and more.

Joining Bandcamp.

What got me to join Bandcamp? Actually, I was first exposed to Bandcamp when I heard the music of C418. C418 should be familiar to fans of Minecraft because he composed the music for Minecraft. Being the inspired dreamer I am, I imagined myself making my own music and offering it online for all to hear and enjoy. I didn't initially get into joining Bandcamp because I wasn't yet serious about trying to build up a music collection to let others hear. That desire to produce music exploded and became infectious once I started envisioning songs in my mind as well as humming in my sleep songs.

As of Now...

As of this initial blog post (January 1, 2016), I have only one album, and it is nothing real special. It is more like a simple portfolio of songs I've produced in the past. The first album of mine simply features a bunch of songs in my past in publishing music. In the future, I will take advantage of making more music and making more albums showcasing a great variety of music and a great variety of songs. Let me let you in on something, though... there are a few songs in my first Bandcamp album I never shared with you if you've heard my music on YouTube and elsewhere. So this is a chance for you to hear a few of my unreleased songs for the first time! Bandcamp is simply yet another creative outlet for me just like most of my other work.

(ADDED: January 6, 2015)
If you would like to sample my work, please take a look at this item below. This features the songs I uploaded for my first-ever Bandcamp album. Have a listen:

Soaring High

John B. Marine | 11:05 PM | Be the first to comment!
"Soaring High" is a high-energy song I created using Linux MultiMedia Studio (LMMS). It is meant to be a song of victory as its tone suggests victory. It also could just be used to express positivity. Either way, this is a positive style song I created with a high energy to it. The main instrument I used wad ZynAddSubFX and a few drum sounds. Here on "John's Creative Space," I'd like to present you one of my latest songs. Even though it is featured as a YouTube video, you need not visit my YouTube channel to be able to hear my song. Have a listen below (or click on the link to view on YouTube):

^ "Soaring High - Made With LMMS"

I may consider doing an extended version of "Soaring High" in which the song loops, and then ends with the original version. Make sure to stay with my YouTube channel to see if I make that extended version. The song took me maybe two hours to complete and even longer to try to perfect it. It was actually about a 30-second song until I decided to add a second part to it to make it more around 55 seconds. The perfectionist in me tried to improvise the song to be better than the original. I may even update this post to include both the original song and the extended version.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy my song here. As a fun fact, this is the first video I uploaded to YouTube (that I can remember) that is 1280 x 720 in screen resolution (720p, of course).

Beyond the Mirror

John B. Marine | 1:27 PM | Be the first to comment!
"Beyond the Mirror" is a somewhat hip-hop styled song I created using Linux MultiMedia Studio (LMMS). The inspiration for this song is basically about what exists behind peeking through a mirror. It has a hip-hop style to it while not being a proper hip-hop song. You have a chance to check out the latest song of mine I put on YouTube! Here is my latest song I released on YouTube:

^ "Beyond the Mirror"

As I began to think about this song and how I made it, I thought about transforming this track into a more hip-hop oriented version. I often times envision remixes of certain songs and how they would sound if remixed. Some remixes are better than their original songs. If I do come up with a remix of "Beyond the Mirror," I will CERTAINLY share that with all of you.

I will be sure to share more of my musical work when I make more available. You are always free to share your thoughts on my work here on "John's Creative Space." Thank you for reading!

Urban Dream

John B. Marine | 12:58 AM | Be the first to comment!
"Urban Dream" is a song I made in #LMMS a long time ago, but never released until recently. I created this song sort of like a (for lack of a better term) dreamy setting in an urban locale. Sort of like living the dream in the big city. Either that, or you are envisioning a sweet dream living life in the city. This song is at least a year old and was updated. The song you're about to hear is the updated version of this song I created long ago. I saved a looping portion of the old version of the song that can be a bit hypnotic.

For your listening pleasure, I give you "Urban Dream":

^ "Urban Dream"

Notes About This Song.

When I tried to edit this song, I was trying to set up the sound so that the introduction had the sound pan from the left speaker to the right speaker to start up the song. Since I didn't know how to do that in Linux MultiMedia Studio (LMMS), I kept the sound in the center. Maybe I'll redo the song to include the left and right stereo panning.

The song was first simply called "Dream." I later called it "Urban Dream" because I sort of envisioned this being a cool song for urban-type settings.

I hope you enjoyed my song.

Creativity With Music

John B. Marine | 2:25 PM | | Be the first to comment!
Throughout my life, I've always appreciated music as much as I've appreciated art. Music is a creative outlet to exhibit expression. There are a number of ways to showcase your musical talent ranging from live performances to computer performances. In today's market, the most popular program for which to produce music is FL Studio. Even if you haven't the money to get a more proper experience in making music with FL Studio, you have many different options ranging from commercial programs to competent freeware and open-source programs.

This blog post is a commentary piece regarding creativity with music.

Creative Aspects of Music.

For people who really care about music, each beat and each instrument have meaning to them. Putting every musical element together is quite the balancing act. You want everything to fall into place and be structured properly. Otherwise, you'd have a hot mess of sounds. Songs themselves have to have a sort of collective flow that have both meaning and purpose. I, for one, think life has its own soundtrack; and almost every moment has a song- even if it's silence.

Being creative with music gets a bit more difficult if you are engaged with vocals. Adding your voice to music can either make or break songs. This is where the music made has to be combined seamlessly with the music to make something special.

The Online Factor.

Many people online share their material through a number of different services. Two of the most popular services online are Soundcloud and Bandcamp. I am personally considering Bandcamp to showcase some of my own music while hopefully making some profit for my work. As for sharing music, people usually post their material on sites such as last.fm, CD Baby, and of course- iTunes.

Some of My Own Work.

"John's Creative Space" is my own outlet to showcase my own material. Having said this, I made two sample songs on YouTube using the free program Linux MultiMedia Studio. These are fairly quick and weren't meant to be proper songs. Have a listen to these two loops I created (or click on the below links to view on YouTube):

^ "Sample Hip Hop Loop Using LMMS"

^ "Sample Trance Loop with LMMS"

As of this post, I have made a song a long time ago that I recently released on YouTube. You'll get to hear that here on JCS in the near future. So stay tuned to JCS for that.

Creativity: 2D Art.

This section pertains to 2D art. You can almost never go wrong trying to express yourself with any number of different programs. I will share with you a few items here.

Photoshop Series
Known worldwide as the gold standard for editing images, Adobe Photoshop has long been the most powerful 2D art editor for a long while. Its many tools and features allow for it to be powerful for anyone to use.

The GIMP
The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), unlike Photoshop, is free. It is powerful in its own right in editing images. There is even a suite full of various effects that make it easy to make items such as buttons for websites. Many items can be either added or created to help boost the array of options you have in making quality graphics. In fact, a lot of what I've used to make art for all of my blogs was made through the GIMP. I use GIMP version 2.6 in my work.

Paint.NET
Paint.NET is an adaptable and fairly easy-to-use program for editing images. However, it is only for Windows systems. You can add on more file formats to be edited if you so choose. Its interface is very basic. Everything is fairly understandable and simple to use.

Creativity: 3D Art.

Here are some 3D art programs to get you interested in 3D modeling...

3D Studio Max
The gold standard and most-used 3D modeling program is Adobe 3D Studio Max. Many feel it is worth the investment to get 3D Studio Max to build high-quality 3D models for a variety of applications ranging from projects to games to even movies.

Maya
If you prefer using OBJ files, give Maya a try. There are a lot of people who use Maya over 3D Studio. So at least in terms of top-tier 3D Modeling software, you have 3D Studio and Maya to choose from.

LightWave 3D
All I know about LightWave 3D is that models constructed are created in LWO format. Other than that, I know not much else about it. This is another top-tier 3D modeling package. Prepare for amazing and powerful 3D modeling capabilities with LightWave 3D.

3D-Coat
3D-Coat is powerful enough a 3D modeler for any sort of application. You can make a wide array of models and touch them up in many different ways using this professional-type modeler. You're going to have to pay if you want to be able to do more advanced 3D material with 3D-Coat. Visit the website for more details on paid versions of 3D-Coat.

Blender
Blender offers a powerful overall package of making and editing 3D models. Most of all- it's FREE! It is also open-source. Blender can be used in making 3D models and even in making videos. You can also make quality renders with this program and any number of effects. What can YOU create with Blender? Find out for yourself by downloading Blender!

Wings 3D
A little-known freeware 3D modeling program is Wings 3D. I have an old version of this program, but have never used it. I am not real sure of the range of possibilities and capabilities with this program. All I do know is that this is another option for one to consider in terms of freeware 3D modeling software.

Google SketchUp
From the fine folks at Google, they offer their own free 3D modeling software- Google SketchUp. I have only limited experience using this program, so I can't say too much about this program. All I can say is that this program can be just as solid in making any sort of 3D models and such as any other program.

Qubicle
Voxels (think volumetric pixels) are nothing new. In recent times, however, the 8-bit or pixelated look has become popular. Only so many programs actually allow for people to make amazing 3D models based entirely on pixels. The best program available now in the creation of voxel models is Qubicle Constructor from Minddesk. Qubicle is an easy-to-use program allowing for great control of making voxel models. I hate to say this to some people... but if you really want to maximize the array of options in exporting your work and being able to even sell your modeling work with this program, you need to pay for any of the different versions.

Qubicle Constructor is used for various cube and voxel games such as Stonehearth, Ace of Spades, almost any Voxlap game (such as Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood among others), Cube World, Guncraft, Minecraft, and much more.

Creativity: Audio.

Time to put those ears to good use! Here are some programs for making quality audio:

FL Studio
FL Studio is the most well-respected music-making software today. This music sequencer is used by many people ranging from amateurs to professionals. High-quality and powerful material help make FL Studio the can't-miss program for anyone wanting to make quality music. The program is free, but more advanced versions with better features will cost you some money. I'd say it's worth the investment based on how serious you are about making quality music with this program.

Linux MultiMedia Studio
If you don't have the money for any paid version of FL Studio, you may want to give Linux MultiMedia Studio a try. Don't let the "Linux" part of the program's name fool you- this is an open-source music maker made for various platforms- including Windows and Mac. It is fairly simple to make basic music with this program. Projects can be exported to WAV or OGG. This is a free program- so no worries about any limitations. Actually, there is only one limitation with what you can do with this program- your imagination. Otherwise, this is a great free alternative to FL Studio.

Audacity
Audacity is a free, open-source audio program good for creating a number of different audio files. Everything is fairly simple to use in recording audio. You can even convert lossy audio formats to other popular formats. MP3s, OGGs, and even basic WAV files can be created using Audacity.

MadTracker
If you are familiar with tracker music, this program is a very good one in the creation of tracker music. It has support for many instrument samples as well as VST instruments to help create great music. Unless you get any of the paid versions, you can only export sounds as OGG or MIDI files. Paid versions of MadTracker will allow you to save files in WAV format.

Creativity: Video.

Video-making resources coming your way in this section. Check it out:

Sony Vegas
Sony Vegas is an industry standard in making quality videos. The entire suite of Sony Vegas compliments the video making and editing desires of amateurs and professionals alike. There is absolutely no shortage of quality video material that can be created using the powerful Sony Vegas program.

Adobe After Effects
In the post-production phase of making videos, one of the most powerful programs available in making such effects is After Effects from Adobe. After Effects allow you to jazz up any number of videos with spectacular effects. That is... as long as you have the finances to buy this program.

VirtualDub
A few times, I used VirtualDub. To be honest, I haven't had much success or need for using this program in the creation and editing of videos. Many people do still use VirtualDub for their video editing needs.

FRAPS
FRAPS is very popular among gamers in capturing video. A lot of online video makers use FRAPS to showcase game videos and even video tutorials. I don't have any FRAPS experience to say I recommend it.

CamStudio
An alternative to FRAPS is CamStudio. Some others use CamStudio to capture their video content on their computer. I have absolutely no experience with CamStudio.
